Our Managing Director, Dani Saveker was recently interviewed by Laurence Grissell from BBC Radio 4.

The programme was part of a new series being featured on Radio 4 called “Anatomy of…” and Dani was approached to discuss the end of her family’s 106 year old business, Savekers Limited. Not only can you hear about how painful it was from Dani’s point of view but also that of our very own Barbara Turner who was an employee at Savekers Limited at the time.

Within the last couple of weeks, Jeeves has been called upon to resolve  a number of problems for our clients.

Plumbing

On Thursday a client contacted us for an emergency plumber. She asked for them to attend on Saturday. Our plumber went out at the agreed time, diagnosed the problem, sourced parts and returned at 9am Monday and the job was completed. The client was delighted and mentioned to us that she had called a plumber out herself recently, they charged a call out fee and was never to be seen again. Jeeves prevents this from happening and ensures the client receives an outstanding service and end solution. One call and we take care of everything and give peace of mind

This client now has a deep clean of her flat scheduled along with a her carpets being steam cleaned.

Tree Surgery

Last week a client contacted us regarding a problem with overhanging trees. We sent our trusted tree surgeon who made various recommendations and as a consequence will attend at a suitable time to trim branches back, dispose of them and also cut down some conifers. While there he will be repairing the clients drive. All sorted – nice and simple.

Roofing

Following our rather excessive rain fall we have been contacted with several roofing jobs – from a few tiles needing replacing to a full re roof. Once again Jeeves comes to the rescue and ensures clients have exactly what they need and when they need it. No messing.

Monthly Agreements

Our monthly packages are up and running – we sit down with a client and understand what they need, what issues there are for their family, what annoys them in the home etc and we provide a regular service to take care of things.

This can include:

-  Home cleaned once a week

- Ironing and dry cleaning taken once a week and returned next day

- Windows cleaned monthly

- Fresh flowers delivered weekly and old flowers discarded

- Fortnightly lawn cut

I was asked to answer the following question today:

Will a Conservative government be good for the Midlands economy?

Possibly one of the more difficult questions to answer.

I’m certainly not able to give a definitive yes or no response! My feeling is that it can’t be much worse than things are at the moment. I know that there’s a lot of talk about the regional agencies being removed – well I’m not the biggest fan of them or the other so called ‘support’ organisations in the Midlands. I feel that they are out of touch and disjointed – all with their own agendas and yet none of them  are actually supporting the vital SME’s and businesses in our region.

Regardless of the colour of the next Government, public spending will be slashed. Having worked with the public sector recently I have been amazed at the waste of money and lack of ‘business acumen’. How public funded regional agencies can help the economy and business I have no idea! Get rid of them, have something simple to help get support to businesses that will make a real difference. Good quality advice, guidance  and support is better than throwing cash around anyway.

Equally the banking sector is out of touch with what is needed and how businesses can access financial support and necessary information. The public sector should be working in partnership with the private sector and yet it’s not. I’m not convinced that the Tories will have the balls to do what’s needed or will be any better in touch with employers and businesses – I just hope that they do listen to the business community  because at the moment business leaders have no confidence in anyone. No economy will improve easily or quickly – what we need is a stable and steady improvement that can be sustained.

Handy new start for Saveker

Dani Saveker, the former owner of Savekers, the 106-year-old manufacturing business that went bust last year, has started a new company called Jeeves Services (UK), a professional handyman and facility-maintenance service for businesses and homes. Saveker said: “Jeeves Services is a business born out of ashes of recession with my team all being personally affected by the current economic situation. Our aim is to provide busy professionals with maintenance support for their homes as well as SMEs with an outstanding level of support for their businesses.” The team will be run by Richard Villers, a former senior manager at Savekers

We’re very proud to launch Jeeves Services – a much needed support and service business for commercial and domestic sectors – all provided by a team who have all been directly affected by the recession. We are here to prove that opportunities can be found everywhere even when things seem pretty bleak. We’re just building the website so we ask for your forgiveness while we make it look pretty and add everything we want to tell you.
